you are here Gone With The Wind (2000)
Highly acclaimed millennial remake of MGM's romantic epic set during the First American Civil War. This is a lavish, colourful production starring Kara Delaney and Daryl Raskin in the roles of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler. Director Saul DuFrense meticulously recreates the period settings but his insistence on the realistic depiction of sex and violence (shooting was halted for 4 months when Delaney became pregnant, and the movie's profit margin was reduced by scores of "wrongful death" suits following real life tragedies during the restaged siege of Atlanta) earned this version of GWTW a PG-11 rating from US censors.

Trashy overacting, bilious makeup and anachronistic props reduce The Cross Comes Home to the level of such soap operas as My Spacemen, My Lovers. Nevertheless, in the interests of free speech, artistic expression, and the development of all creative possibilities of this unique medium, governments should think not twice but many times before they consider a blanket ban on this.  -  by Denys Veset
